The British No.1 and world No.4 recovered from a set down to win an enthralling final staged in front of a capacity 6,858 Centre Court crowd on Monday after play was abandoned on Sunday due to rain.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga played brilliantly. His serve was something else, and I don’t know how Murray even saw it as it rained down on him. His forehand was sent with blistering power and accuracy which he maintained over the course of the match.

However Murray was patient and eventually managed to break him to win the title 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-4.

Let’s hope Murray can recharge his batteries and produce the same result at Wimbledon next week!

Andy Murray swept into the quarter finals of the Aegon championships with a straight sets win against Janko Tipsarevic 6-4, 7-6(3). The Serb also played well and despite another rain break interrupting play, it was Murray who coped best with the conditions and secured the win. He will now meet Marin Cilic in the quarter final.

There were wins for Andy Roddick and Fernando Verdasco, both on fire and winning in straight sets. Jo Wilfred Tsonga is also through after his opponent, Michael Llodra, retired in the opening set. Is it better to have that rest or is it better to get the practice? Time will tell when he meets Rafael Nadal in the last 8.

The biggest upset of the day was on court one where Juan Martin Del Potra was knocked out by unseeded Adrian Mannarino of France 7-6(3), 7-6(7)

Mannarino, who returned to the court for his second match of the day, defied the current rankings to become the first unseeded player to reach the last eight at this year’s tournament.

However the excitement has to be the unfinished match between the defending champion Sam Querrey of the USA and our own British number 2 James Ward, who played very well in the fading light to equal the match at one set all. They will be on court one from 1pm to finish their match. James has a very powerful serve and if he can limit his unforced errors he is in with a good chance of winning. Good luck James!

A day for hot soup rather than Pimms!

Marin Cilic the number 8 seed, started the proceedings by sweeping aside Arnaud Clement of France in straight sets before the rain came.

Andy Murray got his championship under way against Xavier Malisse of Belgium. What a fabulous start for Murray taking the first set convincingly. However a rain delay, a twinge in his ankle and a dip in concentration let Malisse back into the match and Malisse took the second set 7-5. Murray dug deep and eventually secured the final set 6-3.

Murray will have to up his game if he is to beat the Serbian world number 31 Janko Tipsarevic tomorrow

Another nail biting match in store for us all!

For all the Rafael Nadal fans out there, he effortlessly cruised to victory 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 14 minutes.

In a fascinating tussle, the Swiss, seeded number 4 was defeated in straight sets by the British Number 2 James Ward.

A brilliant achievement for the 24 year old who is currently ranked 215 in the world.

This result brings Ward face to face with the defending champion, Sam Querrey, in the next round. Querrey beat Rainer Schuettler in 3 tight sets today.

Andy Roddick who feels quite at home on the green grass of England, triumphed over Feliciano Lopez of Spain in 3 sets. Also comfortably through in straight sets is Juan Martin Del Potro, the 12th seed from Argentina.

Wednesday will see Andy Murray play Xavier Malisse of Belgium, and Rafael Nadal play Matthew Ebden from Australia.

Another cracking day of tennis in store!

The rain has finally come to the south after weeks of dry and warm weather. All this could have been predicted of course as it coincides with the start of the British Tennis season!

Today saw the start of the Aegon Championships at Queens Club, London, the grass prelude to Wimbledon. A fantastic venue to get up close and personal with the world’s top tennis players.

Last years defending champion, Sam Querrey, was on court today defending his title. He successfully beat Kei Nishikori of Japan in straight sets.

The British interest, Oliver Golding, produced a great effort against Nicolas Mahut of France. Born in 1993, yes 1993, he gave a very mature performance, despite losing, and raises our hopes as an emerging British talent.

James Ward, the British No. 2, isthrough to the second round having beaten his compatriot and the British No. 3, Dan Cox, in straight sets. He will now meet world number 14, Stanislas Wawrinka.

Both Rafa Nadal and Andy Murray will be on court tomorrow in the doubles. Andy will be playing with his brother Jamie, while Rafa joins his Spanish compatriot, Marc Lopez.

There is a lot of good tennis to watch tomorrow starting at 1pm on BBC 2
